About Dick Aldridge
We lost Dick Aldridge suddenly to pancreatic cancer in June of 2004. Many of you will remember Dick from his playing days with the Toronto Argonauts in the late 60's and 70's and from his 31 years of teaching. To honour his memory and the memory of others who have died from this disease, the Dick Aldridge Charity Golf Classic was created in 2005.
About Pancreatic Cancer
Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer death in Canada. There is no known cause, no early detection and no known cure. Seventy-five percent (75%) of all patients die within the first year, most within the first three to six months.
Despite the grim statistics of this disease, pancreatic cancer is not a national priority. Only a handful of scientists concentrate solely on this disease due to the lack of funding earmarked for research. As a result, the five year survival rate has remained unchanged for decades; still in the single digits (6%).
