MY STORY:

I am personally invested in raising awareness and finding a cure for pancreatic cancer and I want to share my story with you to help put a face to this terrible disease.  My father, Carl Walker, was a victim of pancreatic cancer at the age of 50.  My father was an Aerospace Medicine Doctor in the Canadian Air Force, having served 24 years and ending his career as a Colonel.  Throughout his life he has played an integral part in the Canadian Military having lived all over the world, and worked with both NASA and NATO on important protocol advancements that are now in use today. All though his achievements make him sound like a hero, the true story is that if you ever asked him what achievements he was most proud of he would say without hesitation, the day that he married his wife, and when he became a father to three children.   

On November 9th, 2009 he went to a colleague at the hospital where he moonlighted in the emergency room complaining of back pain, and was sent home with the terminal diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He was told get his affairs in order and spend time with his family. This is a man who never smoked, hardly drank, ate healthy and ran 5km daily. He was a doctor himself, had no family links to the disease, and no risk factors.  Only three and half months later, on February 1st, 2010 Carl Walker lost his fight with pancreatic cancer.  Those diagnosed with this disease are given no hope, as there has been no advancement of a cure or the factors that cause this disease. Creating awareness and raising money, so that future scientists can study this disease, is the only way we can fight back.

Where: 4Play Sportsbar, 323Portage Ave,Winnipeg,MB.

When: November 4th, 2011 from 9pm-2am

Theme: Purple Carpet

Attire: Cocktail or Business, so suit up for a good cause!

Details:  On arrival there will be a Purple Carpet entrance where you will pose with your friends, co-workers, or significant others with a professional photographer to create some fabulous memories of the event.  There will be great entertainment, speakers on the cause, a silent auction, appetizers, beverages, and much more.
