Kathy's Run for Pancreatic Cancer Canada

This annual event was inspired by Kathy McCollum and honours a former ATCO employee who was a passionate runner and loved by her colleagues. Kathy was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in early 2011 and lost her battle later that same year. Kathy’s passion for running inspired her family and her friends at ATCO to create this event to raise awareness and support life-saving research for pancreatic cancer,

In 2011, the initial goal for Kathy’s Run was to get 100 participants and to raise $10,000. The support from family, friends and colleagues was overwhelming - close to 500 participants registered and raised more than $50,000.

Fast forward six years...

The race has now expanded to Calgary with plans to add other cities in the future, including Montreal in 2018.This event has raised more than $500,000 and monies raised will support PancOne™, a new Pan-Canadian Research Collaboration that focuses on discovering new and better ways to treat pancreatic cancer and improve the outcomes for those battling this devastating disease. The Tom Baker Cancer Centre is one of the key PancOne™ research partners and will benefit from monies raised locally.

Co-chairs, Jessica Laird and Danielle Brown share their thoughts (below in the video) on the impact this event has had on the pancreatic cancer community:
