Turning Purple for Pancreatic Cancer
We need your help to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer during
National Awareness Month in November and we are hoping to turn Canada purple in
the process.
Here are five ways you can get involved:
1. Be part of our Purple Lights Campaign - Hang a string of purple lights on your home or business to honour
loved ones and raise awareness in your communities. Sault Ste Marie, Airdrie, Fredericton and St. John's are just some of the communities participating in this initiative. Click here to order your
purple lights.
2. Ask a Landmark to Turn Purple - Each
year, iconic landmarks and venues around the world have joined the fight
against pancreatic cancer by pledging to light up purple to support this
initiative during the month of November. To date, many landmarks in cities across Canada are turning purple for pancreatic cancer. Click here to see the full list of landmarks and the dates they will be lighting up to raise awareness of this devastating disease.
You
could help us increase this number by contacting your local landmarks or venues
to ask if they would consider illuminating their building purple in support of
our cause. For more information or to get a letter you can send to promote this
campaign, contact us at purplelights@pancancanada.ca
3. Spread the word - November 13th is the first ever World Pancreatic
Cancer Day and we are proud to be part of an international group of non-profits
intent on raising global awareness of pancreatic
cancer.
There are many ways to
participate including donning a purple ribbon or accessorizing with something purple, registering
for the Global Thunderclap (below), hosting a purple light vigil or walk in
your community and illuminating purple glow sticks (available in our shop) to
honour, inspire and raise awareness. The opportunities are countless. Share
with us on Facebook your ideas on how you will promote World Pancreatic Cancer Day. To learn more about this important day - click here.
4. Join
our Collective Thunderclap - Create a
thunderous roar by wearing something purple or joining the World Pancreatic
Cancer Day Thunderclap. It just takes seconds to connect with your Facebook
and/or Twitter account. Your participation will help us raise vital awareness
of this disease. On the 13th of
November, an awareness message about pancreatic cancer will be blasted across
social networks at the same time. Click here to sign up.
5. Participate
in Purple Pins of Hope - Our friends at PanCAN (US) created this
inspirational initiative to honour those affected by pancreatic cancer and have
invited us to participate in their Purple Pins Map. If you are lighting a
building, hosting an awareness event or honouring a loved one, drop a purple
pin on the map and spread purple lights across the globe.
The map opens up on N. America, but a simple touch of the mouse moves the user to
any place on the world map. When you click on a pin and zoom in, the name of an
honoree is illuminated. It’s a fantastic application and is gaining
traction with other countries and we thank PanCAN for sharing this with us. Click here to drop a purple pin on our global map.
Let's give pancreatic cancer a voice and create HOPE for patients and families.
